Jakarta Simultaneous Free Family Planning Services

The Jakarta Women’s Empowerment, Family Planning and Child Protection Agency (PPAPP) has opened simultaneous free Family Planning (KB) services in all areas of Jakarta from January 16 to 20, 2023.

This is also one of the efforts to prevent stunting

Jakarta PPAPP Agency Head, Tuty Kusumawati said the free family planning services are carried out simultaneously in a bid to implement the Population Control and Family Planning Program, increasing family planning acceptors, as well as accelerating the target of family planning program services in Jakarta by 2023.

He detailed, the target for family planning services in 2023 in Jakarta includes 1,564 IUDs; 1,548 implants; MOW (Women's Operation Method), Permanent KB for women or Tubectomy as many as 99; MOP (Male Operation Method), 17 Permanent KB for men or Vasectomy and 194 implant removal.

She explained it was realized in cooperation with  health facilities owned by the government and private, as well as midwives independent practice in Jakarta.

"There are around 156 independent practicing midwives and 28 private hospitals that are collaborating with the PPAPP Agency in family planning services in Jakarta at this time. Hopefully, it will empower the independent practice of midwives in each region," she expressed, Thursday (1/19).

She explained it involved family planning extension officers at urban village level through a door-to-door service. They start it by visiting the homes of prospective family planning acceptors.

"Then these prospective family planning acceptors are directed and accompanied to carry out family planning services to health facilities according to the type of family planning service method chosen," she explained.

She explained it could be done in health facilities such as hospitals, health centers, clinics, doctor's clinics, and midwives' independent practice places. The methods of family planning services provided include repeat family planning services, changing methods, postpartum family planning services, and new family planning services other than postpartum family planning.

The PPAPP Agency in this case provides support in the form of financing and provision of family planning contraceptives and medicines.

"As for health infrastructure facilities, family planning services are supported by health facilities that partner or work with the PPAPP Agency," she explained.

She assessed that this simultaneous service could also encourage the enthusiasm of residents or couples of childbearing age to run the family planning program properly. Thus, they can plan pregnancies and arrange the spacing of births to create a quality family.

The agency continues to strive to build public awareness about the importance of family planning programs to build quality, resilient, and healthy families.

“In a quality family, children can grow and develop well. Thus, in the future, they can become individuals and superior generations who provide benefits to the wider community," she continued.

She uttered the agency continues to improve excellent family planning services for couples of childbearing age throughout Jakarta area through this service activity. He explained, controlling the birth rate in one family would have an impact on reducing the prevalence of stunting.

She added it is very closely related to efforts to create a healthy and superior generation.

“Managing the spacing of children is very important in a family. In addition, it is important to maintain gestational age to produce quality human resources. This is also one of the efforts to prevent stunting," she closed.
